Researching Programs

Before you begin the application process, take the time to research the universities and programs. Use this guide to evaluate each university and it‘s program.

These are excellent questions to ask the admission recruiters during the Graduate and Professional Schools Fair.

  • What is the reputation of the program (U.S. News and World Report Guide to graduate schools is one of the many publications that offer ratings of graduate programs.)?
  • Where is the program located (what are the weather conditions, cost of living)?
  • What are the admissions criteria (GPA requirement, entrance exams)?
  • What types of classes and concentrations are offered? How do they relate to your interest?
  • What is the size of the institution?
  • What are the research interests of faculty?
  • What types of funding opportunities are available (grants, fellowships, scholarships and assistanships)?
  • What is the student to faculty ratio?
  • How many students apply to the program?
  • How many students are accepted to the program?
